MALLORCA TODAY - Cull of non-indigenous and feral animals

Raccoons and coatis that have been released into the wild and feral dogs, cats and pigs are all to be culled in order to stop the hunting and killing of natural wildlife as well as breeding. The animals inhabit forest areas, such as in the Tramuntana mountains. The regional government is to permit the use of traps to try and stop the use of poison.

Meanwhile, pigs on farms in the Balearics are not being treated adequately against Aujeszky's disease which attacks the animals' respiratory systems and can also affect other animals. A lack of funding is to blame.
