MALLORCA TODAY - Parliament Speaker against Bauzá

Pere Rotger, the Speaker of the Balearics parliament, in an address to mark the 29th anniversary of Balearics' autonomy, has, with President Bauzá by his side, defended the equality of Catalan with Castilian and autonomous government. Rotger, a member of the Partido Popular, is closely associated with the town of Inca which, together with Manacor, is one of the main centres of opposition to moves by the Bauzá government to reduce the importance of Catalan. It has been suggested that Bauzá also favours a lessening of regional autonomy.
