According to the Mallorcan hotel federation, 40% of tourists who arrive at Palma airport stay in accommodation that is not regulated by the Balearics tourism ministry - in illegal accommodation in other words.
This news is all designed presumably to add weight to the government's clampdown on illegal accommodation. Though the percentage is probably being exaggerated, it isn't surprising. What the hotels don't say, and yet what I have shown, is that at peak times especially there is a significant shortfall in terms of hotel accommodation relative to the number of tourists.
