Despite the town hall insisting that any building on the military base in Puerto Pollensa would have to meet with planning laws, opposition groups, reacting to the reclassification of the base by the national government which would mean that higher buildings could be developed, say that the base has ignored such laws in the past. The reclassification has raised once again the issue of civilian access to the base.
