MALLORCA TODAY - The non-replacement of the Balearics British Consul

The controversy surrounding the non-replacement of Paul Abrey as British Consul to the Balearics and the decision to centre consular operations in Barcelona while still bringing in a second Vice-Consul to the Palma consulate continues. The "Diario" now quotes the vice-president of the Ciudadanos Europeos de Baleares who says, among other things, that the non-replacement will mean dealing with certain matters of bureaucracy more difficult.

Some points: This organisation, the Ciudadanos Europeos, has been absent from any other reports of the affair until now, making one wonder why it is now making its voice heard. Indeed, what is this organisation? What exactly will be so much more difficult because there is no Consul as such? Why do reports constantly refer to 50,000 British residents on the Balearics? This one says that, in addition, there are 80,000 Britons who alternate their place of residence, so the 50,000 have to be those who are permanent residents. Well, where are they? Because they certainly aren't in official population figures that are released each year. The official figure is at least half this number.
