The president of the local Chamber of Commerce has written to Balearics tourism minister Carlos Delgado to express concern about the impact of regional government legislation that does not permit the commericalising of private apartments for holiday rental. He points to the value of this type of accommodation to the general economy and fears that prohibition will lead to a flight of tourists to other regions of Spain, such as Catalonia, where there are far less prohibitive measures.
