MALLORCA TODAY - Doctor gets 77 years for sexual abuse - or does he?

An ear, nose and throat specialist was sentenced yesterday in Palma to 77 years (and four months) for various sexual offences on female patients at a clinic in Palma, which were committed between 2004 and 2008. The doctor will, however, spend a maximum of four years in prison, as the most he is obliged to serve is three times the tariff for the most serious of the offences he committed, which is one year and four months. The 77 years refer to the total number of offences, but the headlines, like the one here, pick up on the 77, when it is in fact completely irrelevant.
