MALLORCA TODAY - Demands on charities increase in the Balearics

The two charities, the Cruz Roja (Red Cross) and Caritas (the church's charitable wing), are facing increased demands for assistance not just from immigrants but also from native Balearic citizens. Caritas say that they need to attend to some 600 people per month. Requests for help range from help to pay bills and to providing presents for Three Kings.

MALLORCA TODAY - Cruz Roja launches campaign for Spanish poor

The Spanish Red Cross, the Cruz Roja, is to commemorate "Día de la Banderita" (day of the little flag) tomorrow with the launch of a campaign to raise money for Spanish families in need. This is the first time that the charity, which normally raises money for overseas campaigns, has conducted a domestic campaign and it reflects the hardships caused by economic crisis and the charity's fears that social unrest could develop.
