Investment in the Balearics from national government is to be slashed by 73 million euros, a drop of 33% over last year to just over 143 million. As an example of how much funding has fallen over the years, that earmarked for tourism (and business and energy) on the islands is down to just under 100,000 euros, compared with 2.4 million in 2001. Meanwhile, Mallorca is to receive 24 million euros for work to upgrade main roads, almost half of what had been previously envisaged.
