MALLORCA TODAY - Free sunbeds in Ses Salines
It may only be March, but March can have some good weather. Good enough to want to be on the beach. Ses Salines town hall has decided to put out sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach in Colònia Sant Jordi and to offer them free of charge for March. A reason why these facilities are not normally available till later in the year is to do with tender processes and compliance with Costas' regulations that have to be gone through each year. In Ses Salines, however, they don't seem too concerned. If Ses Salines can, why not other municipalities?

MALLORCA TODAY - Too many beach umbrellas in Can Picafort
The mayor of Santa Margalida has ordered the concessionaire who provides the service of beach umbrellas and sunbeds on the main part of the beach in Can Picafort to remove nearly 600 umbrellas which exceed the maximum permitted. The umbrellas are, in addition to being excessive, too close in some cases to the sea. Can Picafort has a history of problems associated with its beaches, a former mayor, Antoni del Olmo, being forced to resign over a case of alleged corruption in respect of the beach service.
