MALLORCA TODAY - Increase in Spanish motorway speed limit being considered

The Spanish Government is looking at the possibility of increasing the maximum speed limit (currently 120kph) on motorways, though it has not signalled what any new limit might be.

MALLORCA TODAY - Proposal to cut main road speed limits

The director-general of Tráfico is to propose that the speed limit of 100kph which applies to many "carreteras" (main roads/highways) be reduced to 90kph. The proposal is on safety grounds. Last year in Spain 1730 people lost their lives in road accidents. Just over three-quarters of these fatalities were on single-carriage highways.

MALLORCA TODAY - Speed limit in force

The new speed limit of 110 kph on motorways was introduced at 6am this morning. One aspect of this is the operation of speed cameras, assuming they are operable. The cameras, centrally controlled by computer, have a margin of error of 10%, which means that they kick in at 120 kph, the previous speed limit.
