The Rocamar hotel in Puerto Sóller is one of Mallorca's best-known eyesores. Closed since 1999, its fate has been a matter of intrigue ever since. Now it emerges that the Balearic Government will be paying nearly one million euros for its acquisition (which will allow its demolition). The recipient of the money will be the father of the current inspector of tourism and under terms of the purchase agreement, a loan of nearly one million euros to the owner of the hotel will be cancelled. The person who extended the loan was Jaume Ensenyat, the father of the tourism inspector, who will now receive the government's money.

MALLORCA TODAY - Sand coming to Sóller
Further to worries that the beach in Puerto Sóller would not be ready for the new tourism season owing to work being performed on the Paseo Marítimo (26 February), the Costas Authority is due to bring sand in on three boats next week in order to ensure that the beach is laid and widened, the hope now being that all work will be finished at the start of April.

MALLORCA TODAY - Worries over Sóller's beach
Delays to work on the Paseo Marítimo (promenade) in Puerto Sóller are leading to concerns that a regeneration of the Través beach in the resort will not be finished in time for the coming tourism season. Work on the sea front in Puerto Sóller has been dogged by problems, such as those which arose last year over the re-routing of the tram.
