MALLORCA TODAY - Ombudsman informed of Lluc walk non-compliance

The ramblers association, Pro Camins, has sent a report to the Defensor del Pueblo (akin to an ombudsman), complaining about the non-compliance with opening access to the walk along the old road between Pollensa and Lluc, compliance that was ordered almost two years ago.

MALLORCA TODAY - Party dissent and other matters at Pollensa town hall

The plenary session of Pollensa town hall on Thursday evening produced more than its fair share of "issues", more than usual even for a town hall as dysfunctional as Pollensa's. One matter concerned the abstention of a member of the La Lliga party on a motion regarding the removal of religious icons (i.e. the removal of the crucifix from the hall where the plenary sessions take place). This was evidence, it would seem, of the tensions caused by the formation of the new El Pi party between La Lliga and the Convergència, the councillor in question being in favour of this new formation whereas his two colleagues in La Lliga are not.

On other issues. There was a demand that mooring facilities at the military base in Puerto Pollensa are opened up to boats that come into the bay. The UMP (Unió Mollera Pollecina) again raised the question of special budgeting for the port alone and got nowhere. A motion requiring the Council of Mallorca to remove all obstacles along the Pollensa-Lluc walk was carried with the mayor's PP abstaining.

MALLORCA TODAY - Pollensa mayor proposes alternative to Lluc walk

Pollensa's mayor Tomeu Cifre has proposed that an alternative be found to the full recovery of the old Pollensa-Lluc walk as he considers this recovery to be impractical. The proposal would involve combining with the dry stone route. The mayor's family finca occupies land on the old Lluc walk.

MALLORCA TODAY - Pollensa's mayor says political motives behind attack over Lluc walk

Ramblers who had called for Tomeu Cifre, the mayor of Pollensa, to resign because his family's finca along the Lluc walk does not permit free access, have been accused by the mayor of using the matter of the barrier for political motives, saying that all orders of the Council of Mallorca regarding access have been met.

The reclaim walk along the old Pollensa-Lluc way was not able to go along the whole walk because of barriers that still exist. The 200 who took part therefore took an alternative path once having arrived at the finca belonging to the mayor's family. Though the barrier had been opened, it is still there, causing there to be a call for the mayor to resign.

MALLORCA TODAY - Lluc walk barriers come down

Following the removal of one barrier at a finca along the Pollensa-Lluc walk, others are now coming down, technical staff from the Council of Mallorca having moved in to take barriers down and so enforce compliance with its order regarding right of way along the old road.

MALLORCA TODAY - One of the Lluc walk barriers comes down

Ahead of the planned "reclaim" walk on 25 November along the old way between Pollensa and Lluc, the new owner of the one of the fincas on the route has taken down an automatic gate that blocked the right of way.

MALLORCA TODAY - Legal uncertainty surrounding fincas on Lluc walk

The Council of Mallorca having said that barriers on the Pollensa-Lluc walk will be taken down before 25 November now finds itself having to clarify the situation regarding the barriers, owners saying there has been no written communication. To the fore in seeking clarification is Pollensa's mayor whose family owns one of the fincas on the walk that has erected barriers.

MALLORCA TODAY - Lluc walk barriers will come down before 25 November

A threat by pro-ramblers to remove barriers along the old Pollensa-Lluc walk on 25 November should be avoided, the Council of Mallorca announcing that it will ensure that they are removed by 23 November. The Council's order that owners must take the barriers away has not as yet been complied with. A walk that reclaims the old road by ramblers will take place on 25 November.

MALLORCA TODAY - Council insists on Lluc walk barriers coming down

The Council of Mallorca is to insist that owners who have placed barriers across the old Pollensa-Lluc road and which are therefore obstacles to walkers remove these barriers before 25 November when protesting walkers plan to remove the barriers themselves.

MALLORCA TODAY - Protest walk will take down barriers on Pollensa-Lluc walk

The Council of Mallorca, despite having claimed legal right to the old road between Pollensa and Lluc, has still not been able to get barriers along the road removed so that free access is available to walkers. On 25 November, therefore, if the barriers have not come down by then, a protest walk is being planned which will entail the removal of the barriers.
