MALLORCA TODAY - Geromel red adds to Mallorca woe against Depor

Deportivo La Coruña 3 : 1 Real Mallorca
Last season this would have been a bottom-of-the table clash in La Liga. Mallorca might have hoped this would be a top-of-the-table clash in the second division, but while Depor are riding high, Mallorca are in mid table, and that's where they are going to stay. Luisinho put Depor ahead after 23 minutes but then calamity for Mallorca, Geromel being sent off four minutes later for a second bookable offence and Luis making it 2-0 shortly afterwards. Never say die, and Victor headed home just after the break to cut the lead, only for Marchena to restore it on 56 minutes. Substitute Nuñez hit a post for Depor, and other than picking up a couple more yellows, Mallorca had no response.

MALLORCA TODAY - Deportivo La Coruña 1 : 0 Real Mallorca

Back to La Liga action and back to full-strength sides (fullish in Mallorca's case) after the Copa del Rey match between these two teams three days ago. Deportivo dominated the opening exchanges, but the game was pretty even with chances to both sides. Gama who put Deportivo ahead on the half hour and while chances kept being made, it was the home side who came closest to netting again, the woodwork saving Mallorca on one occasion. Another defeat for Mallorca who are drifting towards the relegation zone after the good start to the season. Barcelona at home next up, but then three games - two away - each of them against lowly ranked opposition, which could be crucial in getting the season back on track.

MALLORCA TODAY - Deportivo La Coruña 1 : 1 Real Mallorca (Copa del Rey)

A poor first half in this Copa del Rey tie between two sides showing plenty of changes to their normal line-ups which will change again for their La Liga clash on Sunday. Better in the second half, Deportivo went ahead through a long-range effort from Pablo, Mallorca equalising through a Geromel header from a corner. Advantage Mallorca then going into the return leg.

Deportivo's control caused frustration for Mallorca, striker Webó being sent off just before the end of the game. The defeat is a blow to Mallorca's ambitions for gaining a Europa League spot.
