MALLORCA TODAY - Palma Aquarium evacuated in Playa de Palma fire
The Palma Aquarium needed to evacuate visitors this afternoon on account of a fire in the Fontanelles wood and wetland which lies between the Aquarium and Playa de Palma. Images of the fire being sent at the time (I was with Aquarium people elsewhere) looked quite dramatic, though there seemed little real risk. The regional government has recently given the go ahead for the development of a commercial centre in the Fontanelles.
Update: The fire was not extensive and was brought under control after an hour or so of its breaking out.
